There are many factors that can affect the price of a new mattress. One of the biggest is the retail margins, but we will not get into this too much here.
When comparing mattresses at the same store the biggest factors that affect price will be the quality of the components, and the number of components in a mattress. When you increase the quality of the coils or the density of the foams the price will start to rise. When you add layers to the mattress such as memory foam or latex, and increase the thickness of those layers, it will also attribute to a higher cost.
Basically, the higher the quality of the materials, and the more materials used, the more expensive the mattress will be. This does not necessarily mean it is better for you, but it will cost more.
