Most people think that the more coils in a mattress the better it is. This is partially true, and only to a certain extent.
Sure, more coils usually mean more support, but the gauge or the thickness of the coil is also very important. The ticker the coil the stronger it is. So, what if you have 2000 very thin coils in your mattress. Maybe having 800 thicker coils will be just as good or even better. Sometimes coil counts can be misleading. Many manufacturers will stack 1000 smaller coils on top of 1000 regular coils and the salesperson will tell you that the mattress has 2000 coils! So what? Is that necessarily better?
A good average number of coils in a queen size mattress is 800. A little more can be slightly better but anything double or triple that amount is usually just a marketing tactic and does not carry much benefit. Look at the mattress specs and buy from a reputable brand to ensure quality and long life in your new mattress.
