What thread count actually matters for sheets?
The sweet spot is about 200 to 600, and the fibre quality matters more than the exact count. Below 200 sheets can feel coarse; between 300 and 500 you get a smooth, durable, breathable sheet for most people. Above 600, gains are minimal and the higher numbers are often inflated with multi-ply counting. Rather than chasing the biggest number, look at the type of cotton and the weave, which influence feel far more than a few hundred threads.
