How do pocket coils reduce motion transfer?

Pocket coils reduce motion transfer because each coil is encased separately and compresses only under the weight directly above it. When one person moves, the coils beneath them flex while the coils on the other side of the bed stay still, so the movement does not ripple across the mattress. Connected coils share the load through linking wires, which is why they pass motion much more than wrapped pocket coils do.
