No box spring is required, but it does need a solid, fully supportive foundation such as a platform bed, a bunkie board, or closely-spaced slats under 3 inches apart. As a tall all-foam bed, even support underneath is important to prevent premature softening. It is adjustable-base compatible, and split-head Queen and King sizes are available specifically for split adjustable bases.
