What is foam density, and is higher better?
Foam density is the weight of one cubic foot of foam, measured in pounds. For memory foam, 3 to 5 pounds is the durable range, while under 3 pounds is budget foam that softens and sags faster. Higher density lasts longer but is not automatically firmer - density drives longevity, while ILD drives firmness. It is the single best predictor of how long a foam mattress will hold up.
