Pros And Cons of a Pocket Coil Mattress

Pros And Cons of a Pocket Coil Mattress

Researchers estimate that we spend one-third of our lives in bed. This is why it's so important to find the mattress that works best for you. With so many types and brands of mattresses on the market, it can be difficult to decipher which one will work best for you. One popular type of mattress is the pocket coil mattress, which has springs (coils) that support your body as you sleep.

However, unlike the innerspring mattress, which is made of several connected springs, with the pocket spring mattress, each spring is wrapped individually in fabric. Nonetheless, like every mattress type, the pocket coil mattress has its advantages and disadvantages. To help you make the best decision when purchasing your mattress, read on to see the pros and cons of the pocket coil mattress.

Pros

- Reduced motion transfer

Due to the springs in the pocket coil mattress being individually wrapped instead of connected, there is reduced motion transfer. This means that it is not as noticeable to the other person when you or your partner moves or leaves the bed. This can be important for couples who are on different sleep schedules or those who have a hard time sleeping.

- Support

The individual coils in a pocket coil mattress are essential to the individualized support that most people need. The nature of the individually wrapped coils allows them to adjust separately to your pressure points, allowing you to achieve comfort and support while you sleep.

- Durability

The pocket coil mattress is perhaps the longest-lasting mattress on the market due to the fabric that wraps and protects each spring. The fabric encasement provides a layer of protection to the springs helping them last longer. Generally, the material on top of the springs also lasts longer.

- Cooler sleep temperature

Air is more easily able to flow between the individual coils, allowing the mattress to be a cooler sleep surface. Science shows that people generally sleep better in a cool environment. Because of this, a pocket coil mattress can help you achieve a deeper, more satisfying sleep.

Cons

- Price

One of the first reasons that those on a budget choose an innerspring mattress is the lower price. However, unlike the traditional innerspring mattress, which is made with interconnected springs, the pocket coil mattress is at a slightly higher price point. If you are looking to spend the least amount of money possible on a mattress, then this isn't the best choice for you.

- Bounce

Everyone has different comfort levels, and some people enjoy things that others don't. If you enjoy a bed that has a lot of bounce in it, then the pocket coil mattress is not the best choice. Since the pocket coil mattress is made up of springs like an innerspring mattress, it does still maintain a slight bounce; however, it is not as bouncy as the innerspring mattress.

- Reduced sinking

If you enjoy that "sinking in" feeling when you get into a bed, you won't find that with a pocket coil mattress. Some people prefer to have a mattress that surrounds their body as they sleep, but a pocket coil mattress won't do that for you.

Ultimately, all mattresses have their advantages and disadvantages, so it is important to consider both sides and your needs before making such a large investment. If you enjoy support and durability, the pocket coil mattress is a good choice. However, if you are on a strict budget or enjoy being surrounded by your mattress, you should consider other options.
