You do not technically need a bedframe for your new mattress. A mattress can lay directly on the floor, or on a box spring on the floor. If the mattress is properly laid on a flat supportive surface, you will not cause any damage to your mattress.
A bed frame however does bring your mattress higher off the floor making it easier to get in and out of bed. A bed frame also allows air to circulate under your mattress helping you to sleep cooler. A metal bed frame is an inexpensive way to get your mattress off the floor and help you sleep cooler and more comfortably!
