Evergreen mattresses focus on natural, eco-conscious materials and breathable comfort for a cleaner, cooler sleep. Compare every option below by feel, size, and price.

Springwall builds innerspring mattresses around heat-tempered drawn spring steel, with polyurethane foam comfort layers and matching foundations framed in spruce, pine and fir with steel wire. Comfort choices run from extra firm to plush, which makes the decision a question of fit rather than quality. Back sleepers generally do best on medium to firm, stomach sleepers want the firm end, and a softer surface gives the shoulder and hip room to settle for side sleepers. A firm innerspring on a sound foundation remains the straightforward answer for anyone who wants a supportive, traditional feel rather than the slow sink of an all-foam bed.

How to Choose a Springwall Mattress

Springwall is an innerspring maker, so start with what the spring actually does. Heat-tempered drawn spring steel is wire drawn to a consistent diameter and then heat-treated, which sets its temper: the property that substantially reduces the height a coil loses after being compressed thousands of times. It reduces that loss rather than eliminating it, and temper is not usually what gives way first. On most beds the comfort layers soften before the springs weaken. Above the springs sit polyurethane foam comfort layers, and how thick and how firm those layers are is what turns one spring unit into an extra firm bed or a plush one.

Choose firmness by how you sleep, not by how the bed feels in the first thirty seconds. Back sleepers generally want medium to firm, because the pelvis has to stay near the surface for the lower back to hold its natural curve without being flattened. Stomach sleepers want the firm end, and extra firm belongs there and to heavier bodies. Side sleepers generally want medium or plush, because the shoulder and hip need to sink for the spine to stay level. Weight moves everything about a notch. The foundation matters as much as the mattress: a spruce, pine and fir frame with steel wire, or a metal and wood build, spreads load evenly and keeps the spring unit flat.

Heat-Tempered Steel Springs

Drawn steel wire is heat-treated so each coil loses far less height under repeated compression. Temper governs how long the spring unit holds up, though the comfort layers above it usually soften first.

🎯

Extra Firm Through Plush

The same spring unit under different comfort layers produces very different feels, so choose by sleeping position and body weight rather than by the name on the label.

🛠

SPF and Steel Wire Foundations

Spruce, pine and fir framing with steel wire, or a metal and wood build, gives the mattress a flat, load-spreading base. A foundation that has lost its flatness passes the dip straight into a new mattress.

🛡

Traditional Innerspring Feel

An innerspring pushes back rather than hugging, so moving and getting up is easier and air travels through the spring layer. See more innerspring mattresses.

Frequently Asked Questions About Springwall Mattresses

What is a heat-tempered drawn spring steel innerspring?
Drawn spring steel is wire pulled through dies to an exact diameter, which makes every coil in the unit consistent. Heat tempering then relieves the stresses left by forming and sets the wire's elasticity, so a coil loses far less height under repeated loading than untempered wire would. It does not stop the loss entirely, and in practice the foam comfort layers above the springs usually soften before the unit itself weakens.
Which Springwall firmness is right for me?
Choose by sleeping position first. Back sleepers generally do best on medium to firm, which keeps the pelvis near the surface so the lumbar curve is filled rather than flattened. Stomach sleepers want the firm end, and extra firm belongs there and to heavier sleepers. Medium and plush let the shoulder and hip sink, which side sleepers need to keep the spine in a straight line. Then adjust for body weight: heavier sleepers usually want one step firmer, lighter sleepers one step softer.
Do I need a new box spring with a new mattress?
Inspect the old one before you assume either way. Press down across it and look along the edges: give underfoot, creaking, a sagging middle or a visible dip all mean it is no longer holding the spring unit flat, and it will pass that dip straight into a new mattress as a soft spot. If it is sound, keep it. If it has been in service as long as the mattress you are replacing, pair the new one with a sound box spring.
Is an innerspring mattress better than foam?
Neither is better; they suit different people. An innerspring pushes back, so it is easier to move on and to get out of, and air travels through the spring layer, which usually means a cooler surface. Foam contours more closely and lets far less of a partner's movement reach the other side, so it favours side sleepers and anyone with a restless partner. For a supportive, traditional feel, the innerspring is the direct choice.
Are firm mattresses better for your back?
Not automatically. The goal is a neutral spine, not maximum hardness. Too soft and the pelvis drops, rounding the lower back; too hard and there is a gap under the lumbar curve for a back sleeper and a jammed shoulder for a side sleeper. Medium to firm suits most people managing back pain, and position and body weight decide the rest. Persistent or severe pain is a question for a clinician, not a mattress.
How long does an innerspring mattress last, and how do I care for it?
Reassess a quality innerspring somewhere around the eight to ten year mark. The comfort layers soften before the springs weaken, so the first sign is usually a shallow body impression rather than lost support. Rotate the mattress head to foot two or three times a year: flipping is the move a single-sided build rules out, and rotating is exactly what it still needs. Keep it on a flat, sound foundation and use a mattress protector.
