Medium-firmness mattresses — often called medium-firm — sit right between plush and firm, which is why they're the most popular and versatile feel we carry. You get enough cushioning to relieve pressure with enough support to keep your spine aligned, making medium a safe choice for back sleepers, combination sleepers who change positions through the night, and couples who need a compromise between two preferences. Shop medium models from Sealy, Serta, Beautyrest, Stearns & Foster, iComfort and Tempur-Pedic across memory foam, hybrid, euro-top, pillow-top and tight-top builds — with free delivery across Canada. • Feel: medium sits between plush and firm — balanced and the most versatile of our four comfort levels • Also called "medium-firm" — the middle of the firmness scale • Best for: back sleepers, combination sleepers, couples, and most body types • Consider plush if you sleep on your side; firm if you sleep on your stomach or want more support • Constructions: euro-top, tight-top, pillow-top, memory foam and hybrid • Brands: Sealy, Serta, Beautyrest, Stearns & Foster, iComfort, Tempur-Pedic, Springwall & NM • Prices: from $171 to premium

How to Choose an MLILY Mattress

MLILY works in two directions at once: memory foam in several formulations, and hybrids that lay those foams over individually pocketed springs. So the first question is a simple one. Do you want the enveloping, slow-settling feel of an all-foam bed, or the lift and airflow of a hybrid, where tempered steel pocketed coils carry the load beneath the foam? All-foam beds isolate movement more completely and flex easily on an adjustable base. Hybrids breathe better, rebound faster and hold their perimeter more firmly, so they tend to suit heavier sleepers and anyone who sits on the edge of the bed to dress.

MLILY names its foams on the product, and they are worth telling apart. Gel memory foam carries a gel infusion that raises the foam's thermal mass, so the surface takes longer to reach body temperature. The infusion delays the warm-up early in the night; airflow, open-cell structure and the cover fabric do the sustained work. Cool Comfort Gel Memory Foam is MLILY's version of that idea, and on this page it is what the Sierra topper is built from. Charcoal memory foam disperses charcoal through the foam, and MLILY uses it across several of its pillows. Shredded memory foam is chopped rather than left solid, which is a pillow and topper construction. On the support side, 3-Zone Individually Pocketed Springs vary the spring response along the length of the bed: firmer through the middle, where the hips and lower back press hardest, easier at the shoulders and the feet.

🧊

Cool Comfort Gel Memory Foam

A gel infusion raises the foam's thermal mass, so the surface takes longer to reach body temperature. It saturates rather than working all night, so airflow and the cover matter more; see other cooling mattresses.

🌿

Charcoal Memory Foam

Charcoal is dispersed through the foam. Bulk activated carbon takes up odour and moisture, but at trace levels in a foam layer the effect is unquantified, so read it as a refinement rather than a substitute for a breathable build.

3-Zone Pocketed Springs

Spring response changes along the length of the bed: firmer under the hips and lower back, easier under the shoulders, a form of zoned support that suits sleepers whose hips and shoulders want different things.

💤

Extra Firm Through Plush

Comfort runs from extra firm and firm to medium and plush, so sleeping position and body weight can drive the decision.

Frequently Asked Questions About MLILY Mattresses

What is the difference between an all-foam and a hybrid MLILY mattress?
An all-foam mattress uses foam for the comfort layers and the core, so it absorbs movement thoroughly and bends easily on an adjustable base. A hybrid puts the same comfort foams over individually pocketed steel springs. The springs add lift, a firmer perimeter and more airflow through the middle of the bed, which usually means a cooler, more responsive feel and stronger support for heavier sleepers.
What is shredded memory foam, and why is it used?
Shredded memory foam is memory foam chopped into small pieces rather than kept as a solid slab. It is a pillow and topper construction, and the real benefit is that the fill can be moved around and redistributed to change the loft. Under the sustained load of a body in a mattress comfort layer it compacts and migrates into lumps instead, so it is not a way to keep a mattress loftier.
Does charcoal memory foam actually do anything?
Charcoal is dispersed through memory foam in trace amounts. Bulk activated carbon does take up moisture and odour, but a trace additive spread through a foam layer has not been shown to do so at any meaningful rate, and the claimed gain in heat conduction is unquantified. Treat it as a refinement rather than a substitute for a properly breathable build if you sleep hot.
What are 3-zone pocketed springs?
Zoning means the springs are not all the same across the mattress. In a three zone layout the middle section is built firmer, because the hips and lower back carry the most weight and sink furthest, while the shoulder and foot zones are easier so the shoulder can settle. It varies firmness by position along the bed rather than being better than a uniform surface, and each spring still moves independently within its zone.
Which firmness should I pick?
Start with sleeping position. Side sleepers generally want medium or plush, so the shoulder and hip can sink far enough for the spine to stay level. Back sleepers generally do best on medium to firm, which fills the lumbar curve without flattening it. Stomach sleepers want the firm end, and extra firm belongs there and to heavier sleepers, to stop the pelvis dropping. Then adjust for weight: heavier sleepers often want one step firmer.
Do memory foam and hybrid mattresses work with an adjustable base?
All-foam mattresses flex the most freely and are the natural partner for an adjustable base. Many hybrids articulate well too, because individually pocketed springs bend more readily than a single connected spring unit, but it depends on the model's height and edge construction. Check the specification for the mattress and the base together before you buy, and ask if the answer is not clear.

Foam or Hybrid? Talk It Through
