How to Choose an Evergreen Latex Mattress

Latex beds come in two shapes, and knowing which one you are looking at is the first step. An all-latex mattress uses latex for the comfort layers and for the support core underneath. A latex hybrid puts natural latex on top of a pocket coil core, so you get the buoyant, quick-recovering feel of latex over the independent point support of steel springs. Evergreen builds in the second style: natural latex comfort layers over a foam-encased pocket coil, including the 1000 Series High Loft Pocket Coils with Bio Foam Encasement. Both are genuinely latex mattresses, but they feel and age differently.

Latex itself repays some understanding. Natural latex is tapped from the rubber tree and cured into foam. It springs back the moment you move instead of holding an impression the way memory foam does, and the pinholes left by the moulding process let air travel through the sheet. Talalay latex is whipped and flash frozen before curing, which gives a lighter, more uniform, springier surface; Dunlop latex is poured and settles denser at the bottom, which makes it the firmer choice for a core. Bio foam swaps part of the petroleum content of a polyurethane foam for plant-derived polyols.

🌿

Natural Latex Comfort Layers

Latex responds instantly rather than holding an impression, so changing position does not mean waiting for foam to catch up. It is also naturally breathable.

Foam-Encased Pocket Coil Core

The 1000 Series High Loft Pocket Coils sit inside a bio foam encasement, giving independent point support through the middle and a reinforced perimeter for edge support.

🤝

Low Motion Transfer

Individually pocketed springs absorb movement locally instead of carrying it across a connected wire, which is why this build suits couples and light sleepers.

💤

Firm or Medium

Firm holds the hips higher for back sleepers, while medium gives the shoulder and hip more room, the usual preference for side sleepers.

Frequently Asked Questions About Evergreen Latex Mattresses

Is an Evergreen mattress all latex or a latex hybrid?
Evergreen builds latex hybrids: natural latex comfort layers over a pocket coil support core held inside a bio foam encasement. An all-latex mattress uses latex for the core as well, which changes the weight, the feel and the way the bed ages. Both are true latex mattresses. The hybrid simply adds the independent point support of individually pocketed steel springs beneath the latex, so check the construction listed for the model you want.
What is the difference between Dunlop and Talalay latex?
Both begin as liquid latex. Dunlop is poured into a mould and left to settle, so the finished slab is denser at the bottom and firmer overall, which makes it a common choice for support layers. Talalay is whipped, vacuum expanded and flash frozen before curing, producing a lighter, more uniform foam with a springier surface. In practice, Talalay feels more responsive on top and Dunlop is often chosen for the firmer core.
Is natural latex the same thing as organic?
No. Natural latex describes the material: foam made from rubber tree sap rather than petrochemicals. Organic is a certification about how the rubber was grown and processed, awarded to specific products by specific bodies. A mattress can be made with natural latex without carrying an organic certificate. If certification matters to you, look for the named certificate on the individual model and browse natural and organic options.
Does a latex mattress sleep cooler than memory foam?
Generally, yes. Latex is moulded with open pinholes that let air move through the sheet, and it does not soften and wrap around you the way heat-activated memory foam does, so less of your body is enclosed. In a hybrid, the gaps between pocketed coils add a second path for air. If heat is your main complaint, compare cooling mattresses as well.
Should I choose firm or medium in a latex hybrid?
Back sleepers generally do best on medium to firm, enough to fill the lumbar curve without flattening it. Stomach sleepers want the firm end, which stops the pelvis dropping below the line of the shoulders, and side sleepers usually want medium so the shoulder and hip can settle. Latex shifts the reading: because it pushes back sooner than memory foam, a latex bed at a given label tends to read firmer and more supportive, though less enclosing. Lie on it for a full ten minutes.
How long does a latex mattress last?
Latex is one of the longer lived mattress materials, and a latex comfort layer typically outlasts the same thickness of soft polyfoam because it resists permanent compression. In a hybrid, the coil core and the encasement matter just as much, so judge the whole build. Rotate the mattress head to foot a few times a year, use a breathable mattress protector, and reassess around the ten year mark.

Comparing Latex Against Foam or Coils?

Our non-commissioned sleep experts can explain how a latex hybrid feels next to memory foam or a straight pocket coil, and which suits the way you actually sleep.
