These mattresses blend copper, charcoal, graphite or similar minerals into their foam layers or cover fabric. These materials conduct heat well, helping move warmth away from your body, and are also used to help keep the mattress fresh by resisting odour. A good place to start if you sleep warm and want cooling built into the materials themselves.
Every mattress here has at least one layer of memory foam, in the comfort layers or quilted into the cover. Memory foam softens with body heat and slowly moulds to your shape, easing pressure at the shoulders and hips and absorbing movement. You will find it in all-foam beds and in hybrids, where it sits above pocket coils. For all-foam memory foam beds only, use Mattress Type.
Plant-based foam, also called bio foam or soy foam, replaces part of the petroleum-based ingredients in standard foam with oils from plants such as soy. It feels and performs like conventional foam. Every mattress here has at least one layer the manufacturer describes as plant-based, bio-based or soy foam.
Continuous coil mattresses use coils that are linked together, either formed from one length of wire per row or joined with connecting wires, as in Bonnell and offset coil systems. Because the coils move as one unit, the bed has a classic bouncy feel, a firm and even surface, and holds up well over time. A dependable choice for back and stomach sleepers.
