Sealy mattresses are engineered for dependable, body-aligning support — many featuring Posturepedic Technology that reinforces the centre third where you need it most. Compare every option below by feel, size, and price.

The bed you sleep on is a system, and the pieces around the mattress decide how well it performs. National Mattress carries pillows matched to how you sleep, mattress protectors that keep spills and body oils out of the comfort layers, bedding and sheets, mattress toppers, and the support that goes underneath: box springs, bed frames, adjustable bases, and bedroom essentials such as headboards and platform bedframes. Choosing well is mostly a matter of matching each piece to your sleep position, your mattress height, and the support your mattress needs to sit flat.

How to Choose Bedding and Sleep Accessories

A bed is a system, and the pieces around the mattress decide how much of its comfort you actually feel. Start with the pillow, because it sets the angle of your neck and is the easiest thing to get wrong. Side sleepers need a high loft to fill the gap between ear and shoulder, back sleepers a medium loft that supports the curve of the neck without pushing the chin forward, and stomach sleepers the thinnest pillow they can tolerate. Fill then decides feel: memory foam, whether one moulded piece or granulated and loose, softens under body heat and holds the shape it takes; latex pushes back sooner and reads firmer and less enclosing at the same firmness label; feather can be punched into any shape and needs re-fluffing to keep it; and fiberfill sits lightest and washes most easily.

Below the sheets the job changes from comfort to protection and support. A mattress protector is a barrier against spills, sweat and skin oils, all of which reach the foam long before a stain shows. When you buy sheets, check the fitted pocket depth against your mattress height plus any topper, because a shallow pocket pops off the corners. Underneath, a mattress only performs on even, continuous support: a sound box spring, a bed frame with closely spaced slats, or an adjustable base if you want to raise the head and legs. Bedroom essentials such as headboards and platform bedframes finish the room.

🛏

Pillow Loft by Position

Loft, not softness, is the real decision. Match pillow height to the gap your sleep position leaves, then pick a fill that holds that height.

🛡

What a Protector Blocks

Liquid, perspiration and skin oils reach the comfort layers long before a stain shows, and foam does not wash. A thin knit faced laminate blocks all three and is close to unnoticeable; a quilted or padded protector softens the surface slightly.

📏

Sheet Pocket Depth

Measure the mattress from top seam to bottom seam, add any topper, then buy a fitted sheet with a deeper pocket than that total.

🔧

Support Underneath

Foam and pocket coil beds need even support across the whole surface. Closely spaced slats, a sound box spring or an adjustable base all provide it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bed and Mattress Accessories

Which accessories do I actually need with a new mattress?
Three things matter most: a pillow that suits your sleep position, a protector to keep spills and body oils out of the comfort layers, and support underneath that holds the mattress flat. Sheets with a deep enough pocket come next. A topper is usually unnecessary on a new mattress, since you already chose the feel. Frames and headboards are room decisions rather than sleep ones.
How do I pick a pillow for my sleep position?
Lie down the way you actually sleep and have someone look at your neck from the side. It should continue the straight line of your spine. If your chin tucks toward your chest the pillow is too tall, and if your head tips back it is too flat. Side sleepers usually need the most loft, back sleepers a medium loft, and stomach sleepers the least.
Do I really need a mattress protector?
If anything ever spills, if you sweat at night, or if a child or a pet is on the bed, yes. Body oils and perspiration soak into foam and quilting where you cannot wash them out, and liquid carries them deeper still. A protector takes that traffic instead and goes in the wash. A thin knit faced one is close to unnoticeable through the sheet, while a quilted or padded one softens the surface slightly.
Do I need a box spring, or is a platform bed enough?
Either can work; what matters is even, continuous support. A platform or slatted frame is enough when the slats sit close together, around three inches apart or less, so foam and pocket coil layers cannot bow between them. A box spring is the right answer when your frame is an open rail with no slats, or when you want extra height under a taller bed.
What size sheets do I need for a deep mattress?
Buy by pocket depth rather than by mattress name. Measure the side of the mattress from the top seam to the bottom seam, add the thickness of any topper, then choose a fitted sheet rated deeper than that number. Standard fitted sheets handle beds up to roughly twelve inches, and deep pocket sheets go further. Slightly too deep still fits; too shallow never will.
Can I add a topper to a brand new mattress?
You can, but ask why first. A topper changes surface feel, so it makes sense when a mattress you otherwise like sleeps firmer than you expected. It cannot add support, and it will mask the feel you deliberately chose. If a new mattress is badly wrong for you, the honest answer is usually a different mattress rather than a layer on top of this one.
