A boxspring is used to support your mattress and to add height to your bed.
Support – A boxspring will ensure that your mattress is supported properly, and its weight is distributed evenly throughout the bed. Proper support is essential to maintain the integrity and longevity of your mattress. A boxspring can be placed directly on the floor, or used with any supportive bedframe.
Height – Boxsprings also add height to your bed. Whether you like your bed to be lower to the ground, or higher up, you can find various heights of boxpsrings to make your bed just right. Standard size boxsprings are usually used with bedframes as high as 11 inches off the ground. If your bedframe is higher than 11 inches, you may want to consider a low profile boxspring to make it easier to get in and out of bed. These are just guidelines, so we do recommend measuring your existing bedframe and then deciding on the height of the boxspring you require once you have picked out your new mattress. Mattress heights can differ greatly from one model to another.
Did you know: Bedframes with supportive slats which are spaced no more than 2 inches apart, typically do not require a boxspring. However, to add additional support, you may look into a platform foundation which will not raise the overall height of your bed too much (only 2 inches in height) but will add support if you need it.
Matching boxsprings usually have the same colour fabric as your mattress, however mix-match boxsprings are a great option to save some money as they still provide the support your mattress needs, and once you put on bedsheets and a bed skirt you don’t see the colour of the mattress and boxspring anyways.
